Paper Retraction Policy

Purpose:
The Global Research Journal of Natural Science and Technology (GRJNST) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, transparency, and scientific accuracy. To safeguard the reliability of the scholarly record and uphold the trust of the research community, GRJNST implements a clear and comprehensive policy for the retraction of published articles when serious ethical, methodological, or legal concerns arise.

Scope:
This policy applies to all articles published in GRJNST, including original research articles, review articles, case studies, short communications, perspectives, monographs, and other scholarly contributions. Retractions may be initiated by the editorial team, authors, institutions, or third parties when there is clear evidence of problems that undermine the validity, integrity, or ethical compliance of a published work.

Grounds for Retraction:
GRJNST considers retraction when one or more of the following conditions are met:

  1. Plagiarism or Redundant Publication:
    • The article includes substantial unattributed material from previously published works.
    • The article has been submitted and/or published in another journal simultaneously without proper disclosure.
  2. Data Fabrication or Falsification:
    • Evidence shows that data, figures, tables, or results have been intentionally manipulated or fabricated.
    • Statistical analyses or experimental results are found to be unreliable or misleading.
  3. Ethical Violations:
    • Research involving human or animal subjects was conducted without proper ethical approval or informed consent.
    • Failure to disclose conflicts of interest that significantly affect interpretation of results.
  4. Legal or Copyright Violations:
    • Reproduced content violates copyright laws or intellectual property rights, and no permission was obtained.
    • Unauthorized use of third-party proprietary data or material.
  5. Severe Methodological Flaws:
    • Fundamental errors in methodology that render results invalid and conclusions unreliable.
    • Reanalysis demonstrates that conclusions cannot be supported by the reported data.
  6. Misleading or Fraudulent Authorship:
    • Falsification of authorship, contributions, or affiliations.
    • Submission by individuals without proper authorization from all co-authors.

Retraction Process:

  1. Initiation:
    • Retraction requests may come from the editorial team, authors, reviewers, institutions, or readers.
    • All allegations must be supported by documented evidence or credible sources.
  2. Preliminary Assessment:
    • The Editor-in-Chief conducts an initial evaluation to determine the validity of the concerns.
    • Authors are notified and given the opportunity to provide explanations, corrections, or supporting documentation.
  3. Investigation:
    • A thorough investigation is conducted, potentially involving the editorial board, external experts, and institutional ethics committees.
    • The process aims to be impartial, transparent, and timely, balancing the rights of authors with the integrity of the scholarly record.
  4. Decision:
    • Based on the investigation, a formal decision is made regarding retraction, correction, or other editorial action.
    • Retractions are issued only when the issues are serious enough to invalidate the article or violate ethical and legal standards.
  5. Retraction Notice:
    • Retracted articles remain publicly accessible to maintain the scholarly record, but they are clearly labeled as “Retracted” in the title and on the article page.
    • The retraction notice includes:
      • Full citation of the retracted article
      • Reason(s) for retraction
      • Date of retraction
      • A statement clarifying whether authors agreed to the retraction
    • The PDF of the retracted article is watermarked or marked as “Retracted” to prevent unintentional use.
  6. Transparency and Indexing:
    • Retraction notices are permanently linked to the retracted article and indexed in databases.
    • Databases and abstracting services are notified to update the article’s status.
  7. Author and Institutional Responsibilities:
    • Authors must cooperate fully with the retraction process.
    • Institutions may be asked to provide supporting information or investigate misconduct claims.
    • Failure to cooperate may result in editorial action, including notification to funding agencies or professional bodies.

Corrections vs. Retractions:

  • Minor errors, typographical mistakes, or data clarifications that do not affect the overall validity of the article will be addressed through a correction or erratum rather than full retraction.
  • Retraction is reserved for cases where the article’s reliability, integrity, or ethical compliance is compromised.

Preventive Measures:
GRJNST employs multiple strategies to minimize the need for retractions, including:

  • Comprehensive double-blind peer review to assess research quality and ethical compliance.
  • Mandatory use of plagiarism detection software to ensure originality.
  • Clear author guidelines emphasizing ethical conduct, accurate data reporting, and full disclosure of conflicts of interest.
  • Verification of ethics approvals and funding disclosures for studies involving human or animal subjects.

Impact of Retraction:

  • Retraction ensures that invalid or unethical research does not mislead the scientific community or the public.
  • It protects the integrity of the journal, maintains trust with readers, and upholds the standards of scholarly communication.
  • Authors of retracted papers may face restrictions on future submissions, reporting to institutions, or disciplinary action if misconduct is confirmed.

Communication:

  • Retraction decisions and notices are communicated promptly to all relevant stakeholders, including authors, co-authors, reviewers, institutional contacts, indexing services, and databases.
  • The process is transparent, documented, and publicly available to reinforce accountability.

Policy Review:
GRJNST periodically reviews and updates its retraction policy to reflect evolving standards in publishing ethics, COPE guidelines, and best practices in open-access scientific communication. The journal is committed to continuous improvement to maintain the highest level of trust and integrity in all published content.
